Just because it is important

But was tacked on my last post that was admittedly TL:DR, the ELO Ratings Pages are being discontinued,  The server-side job that updated hasn’t actually ran since I upgraded my server, I will likely just post a player list page that contained links to people’s PWP pages, I am currently unaware of how to import that data since the page output is a Jscript app and doesn’t actually post the information in the HTML at all.

I’ve asked Wizards on numerous occasions to give 3rd party developers a Query port to get that information, every-time they stated they have no intentions of developing this.

Updates to Orginized Play/Planeswalker points

In case you are living underneath a rock or something wizards went ahead and announced a pretty encompassing change to the way Planeswalker Points function and it’s role in a new Premier Play Function.  The article can be found here as well as wizards typical half-assed explanation here (to be fair the changes are more straight forward than anything wizards has implemented in the past 2 years, awhaddup changes to IPG which have since been redacted, but I feel there were some information that was glossed over).  Here are some of the things you should take away from this. How to make Planeswalker points better

If you’ve not read it yet you should read this article on Ch. Fireball about PWP. It’s a fairly good read about some of the underlying issues with the new Planeswalker points system. It was signed by the five of some of the best players to ever play the game, meaning that the ideas portrayed in this article were agreed to by a committee of persons who should be considered highly qualified to speak on this subject.

10 things I think I think (no particular order)

1. I finally got my iPad 2 this weekend. One thing that really stands out to me is how much better iPad-native iOS apps feel when compared to their iPhone-iPod counterparts. Props to IOS devs who rolled their “HD” versions in with their lo-fi version (twitter and ascension to name a few) slops to those that don’t make a hd version available (looking at you Facebook)

Planeswalker Points

This was totally unexpected. Starting next year it appears as if the DCI is abandoning the ELO System that they’ve used forever and replacing it with a experience point-based system. This has the practical upshot of this is never having your “Rating” go down due to Variance. You don’t have to skip events to protect your byes at a Grand Prix, or your PT ratings invite.

Merry Xmas (the War is Over)

So if you’ve been living under the rock you might want to read this and this. So in a Unprecedented move in a quarter that has seen it’s fair share of them Wizards decided to make a last minute change of a pro-tour format. This was indeed VERY last minute. Pro-Tour Philadelphia is September 2nd-4th, 3 weeks from now, and now all the qualified players who have been playtesting for a few weeks now have to scratch all the work they’ve been doing and pick up a Brand new format. If I was qualified for Philly I would actually be somewhat upset.
